Summary

In the southern American areas the cicadas have returned. Adult cicadas are usually 2-5 centimeters long. The cicadas eat the sap from trees and have big eyes and small antenna. The cicadas lay their eggs in branches and trees. They make a loud buzzing noise. These animals have no harm to humans, they do not sting or bit but they fly around humans and they annoy them very much. They get into people houses and they can be even be stuck in their hair. But they can also protect plants. They are emerging and they are living for a short amount of time.

Connection

This reminds me of during the summer because I always see dead cicadas and them buzzing. This also reminds me of the first grade project about bugs. My partner and I were assigned to research cicadas.

Thinking Hat

Black hat – This is bad because the bugs are very annoying.

White hat – The cicada bugs have come back to the Southern USA, and many other places.

Red hat – I feel happy because these harmless creatures are saving our crops.

Yellow hat – This sometimes good for the cicadas only being here in the Summer.

Blue hat – I think that these creature can actually change our eco system.

Green hat – Maybe there can be a cicada center for homeless cicadas.

Orange hat – I think that this is interesting because these animals can be found rare.

Purple hat – I value this insect because they are helping crops.

Summary

On May 10 Microsoft has announced that they will purchase Skype, the internet telephone and video call company. Microsoft is one of the world`s most successful companies in the world. Last year Microsoft had sales up to $62.5 billion and $19 billion dollars was the profit they made. They sold Skype for $8.5 billion dollars. Some people think that the price was too high others disagree but anyways the company was doing bad so the business in the future will go better. So far Microsoft has been having trouble inventing new programs on the internet. Currently Skype has 170 million users.

Connection

This reminds me when my mom is contacting my grandmother with Skype on a Windows computer created by Microsoft. This also reminds me when I am doing my homework on our family computer and my brothers friends going on and offline.

Black hat – This is bad because Microsoft lost a lot of money to get just 1 program.

White hat – On May 10, Microsoft has bought Skype for $8.5 billion dollars.

Yellow hat – This can be good because Skype can be improved by Microsoft.

Red hat – I feel as if that Skype might have made a bad choice because Microsoft could also make it worst.

Summary

               Around the world on April 22 Earth Day was celebrated. This day is organized by the Earth Day Network. This main reason for this day is to aware and respect the environment. Environmentalists say that Earth Day should not be a day when we think about the environment once a year, it is actually a day to think of our responsibilities towards the environment. The first Earth Day was invented by an American politician in 1970. The highlight campaign was called ” Billion acts of green”. Network claims that big changes can happen when we all take part of Earth Day. Any act such as riding a bike to school.

Connections

This reminds me of my ”role of responsibility, recycler” because we are making a change and we are help the school by collecting recyclable paper around the elementary school area.

Summary

On April 29 a royal wedding took place in London, United Kingdom. Prince William and Princess Kate was married in a Christian Church. The royal families started the family tree a very long time ago, around 1688. The king and Queen is basically the prime minister of UK. Prince William’s father is Prince Charles and his wife is Princess Diana which unfortunately was killed in a car crash in 1997. Over 2,00 people were invited to their wedding and hundreds of million people watched the wedding on T.V. One of the main reason that interests people is that they are sure that Prince William and Princess Kate will become King and Queen of England when Queen Elizabeth dies. If they have kids they will become the next King or Queen of England.

Connection

This reminds me when I was watching the wedding on youtube. I saw them in a big church with thousands of people sitting and watching. They were dressed up in very proper clothe during the ceremony.

Black hat: This is bad because in order for them to be King and Queen, Queen Elizabeth has to die.

White hat: On April 29th Prince William and Princess Kate was married.

Red hat: I feel happy because a the wedding went as planned and there were no interruptions.

Yellow hat: This is good because now the royal family can carry on who is crowned king or queen next smoothly.

Blue hat: I think that this is much more important now because they have a big responsibility.

Literal/Figurative

For this word we had to write a of a literal and a figurative description of a bike. A picture, inspiration and the writing is below.

Figurative: His bike was the starting journey to his all-time dream destination the chain was the engine of his bike. The petals were the speed controllers but most important of all was his breaks. His breaks were used for stopping to his destination.

Literal: this is a man biking for his daily exercise. He is looking at a map and he is going up a hill.

Onomatopoeia

For this word we had to use it to describe eating a juicy orange. A picture, inspiration and the sentence is below.

I have been inspired by the milkshakes because when there is barely any drink left and there is ice, I try to slurp it up with my straw.

Imagery Poem

This is supposed to be a short paragraph about a tree. An inspiration and the poem is below.

The tree’s leaves are green as a forest and the roots are strong as a bull. The branches are as long as a cobra, but the tree does not do much. The tree holds steadily when a storm passes by. The tree is a person and the feelings change when the seasons do. The tree is on a look out for the loggers, but when they see the loggers that may be the last thing they see.

I got inspired by this because the leaves are green as a forest from a picture in a book and that idea stayed in my head. The root strong as a bull and the branches long as a cobra reminded me when I went to the zoo. I thought of the loggers from a story when there was a self-fish tree but then we turns very wise.

Alliteration

For this poem we had to write two sentences about water using alliteration. My poems/sentences, explanation and my inspiration is below.

1. The water gently gabs the calm water.
2. The water splashes swiftly into the delicate water.

1. I was inspired by this because I was thinking of a verb that touches you, but the water gently gabbing is the same thing as like touching your face but the water is touching the water.

2. I got the inspiration from this by thinking of ways that liquid do, for example I looked at my picture and I looked at the water carefully and I noticed that the water was all around the place.

Literature Yellow Hat

This is my sound track for the yellow hat thinking. This is when Ping and Danzi overcome their problems and they can live a short time of happiness in the end of the book. The problem was that Daio and hunter tried an attempt to steal the dragon’s egg. I think that they were a bit foolish because they did not always think about the things that they were going to do but Ping help Danzi a lot. In the end I feel happy for them because they overcame all of there problems. It was very happy when Danzi saves his egg and Ping gets away from the fake dragon keeper. Simile Poem #2

For our writing homework we had to write a poem about a sharp pencil. This was about a pencil and we had to compare something sharp to a pencil lead. My poem, description and inspiration is below.

“The pencil lead is sharp as push-pin.”

I got the idea of a push-pin because a pencil is a classroom material and so is a push-pin. I started looking around my desk and I was looking for sharp objects and the first thing I saw was a plastic box of push pins. When I saw the push pins it reminded me when my brother mistakenly stepped on a push-pin. The idea just came to me so I did that.
